Cech returns to the Bridge


  • Cech returns to Chelsea after four years.
  • Chelsea name Petr Cech as new technical director and performance advisor.

Petr Cech announced his retirement from football on the 19th of January 2019, though the announcement did not take effect until the end of the 18/19 season.

The 37-year-old return to the Bridge will see him take on the responsibilities of former Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo who joined Monaco. He left the role back in November 2017.

Cech’s new role is to advise on football and performance matters, as well as being the bridge between developing academy-stars and the first team.

The former goalkeeper work will be at the club’s training center Chelsea’s in Cobham, he will also be advising the director Marina Granovskaia and the coaching staff.

Confirming his return, Cech said on the club’s website:

“I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to join Chelsea again and help create the best possible high-level performance environment to continue the success the club has had over the past 15 years.

Following his appointment, Cech will advise the club about a possible replacement for Maurizio Sarri.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia welcomed Cech’s return, saying:

“We are delighted to welcome Petr back home to Chelsea.

“During his playing career here, he was one of the most dedicated, successful and thoughtful professionals we have ever had.

“We always hoped that when Petr was ready to retire we would see him back at Chelsea and we are thrilled to add his expertise and knowledge of the game to the technical staff.”

The Czech Republic international won 13 major trophies during his 11 years at Chelsea and also 4 Premier League titles and FA Cups.

Savechelsea.net also reported former teammate of Petr Cech is in talks with Chelsea’s executives over the managerial vacancy at the bridge.
