Chelsea lead Madrid in race for Alisson

Chelsea are reportedly set to beat La Liga giants Real Madrid to the acquisition of Roma goalkeeper Alisson in a £62 million deal, likely paving the way for Courtois’ potential move to the Bernabeu.

Gianluca Di Marzio has disclosed that the Los Blancos are unwilling to pay the asking price which has been set for the Brazil international goalie, therefore giving the Blues the edge in the deal.

Alisson played a key role for Roma in his breakthrough 2017/18 campaign in which he established himself as the first choice goalie and impressed under the tutelage of manager Eusebio Di Francesco.

Meanwhile, journalist David Amoyal has expressed the belief that Alisson would be a decent signing for Chelsea, and will be better if Maurizio Sarri joins the club and takes over from Antonio Conte. He wrote on Twitter:

“Cannot think of a better goalkeeper for Sarri’s style than Alisson- that would be quite the duo at Stamford Bridge”

Although the price that has been set by Roma is a world record fee for a goalie, it’s difficult to dispute the high valuation based on the player’s performance for Roma last season. Alisson has displayed exceptional goalkeeping skills since becoming the first choice at Roma as he has shown razor-sharp reflexes, a command of his penalty area and excellent composure on one-on-one situations. The 25-year-old has also proven agile enough to make stunning saves. He also possesses excellent distribution which gives him an edge over other goalkeepers.
