Chelsea FC could easily pass for one of the slowest clubs this summer with regards to preparations for the forthcoming 2018/19 season based on current proceedings at the club. While other clubs are identifying and recruiting their targets in preparation for the upcoming season, Chelsea fans have been treated to suspense with regards to the club’s managerial status, the future of key players as well as the move to sign players.
Chelsea appear to be dilly-dallying on all fronts and this obviously won’t bode well for the Blues going by how their rivals in the Premier League are strengthening. Based on this, we’ve identified 3 challenges that must be addressed sooner rather than later by the Chelsea hierarchy or they will adversely affect Chelsea’s upcoming 2018/19 season
1. Conte or Sarri! We’ve been literally killed by the speculations.
Sarri set to become Chelsea manager! Sari set to be confirmed as Chelsea boss in a few hours! Sarri to be announced as Chelsea boss next week! These have been the headlines this summer, and pre-season is likely to commence on Monday on Conte’s orders according to reports, yet, the Chelsea hierarchy has yet to come through with who will eventually be at the club’s managerial helm next season.

Other clubs who faced similar challenges have gone on to sort them out, but Chelsea fans still remain uncertain on who the next boss will be. Even the players have called for an urgent clarification on the managerial situation at the club. Little wonder, there were reports on Conte insisting that he was still boss, and demanded that the players returned on Monday for pre-season although the club had asked them to return this weekend.
2. Inactivity in the transfer market. Just rumor mills!
Chelsea had an average season last term, and it is expected that the club will go all out to sign quality players this summer. However, this has not been the case. While other clubs continue to close deals for quality players, Chelsea are yet to sign a pin for the senior side. One must recall that the club won’t be playing any part in the Champions League next season and this might affect the level of quality they can attract. The likes of Hazard and other key men have demanded that the club signs quality players ahead of next season if they want to stand a chance.
3. Top players yet to commit
Chelsea’s best players have all been linked with moves away from the club this summer. One is Thibaut Courtois, whose contract expires at the end of next season. A situation which ensures he leaves on a free if the club fails to sell him this summer as he is yet to agree on a new deal with the club, with hints that he might leave Stamford Bridge for personal reasons.
Willian is another player who’ll definitely leave Chelsea if Conte remains in charge. Hazard has also not ruled out a move away from the club this summer and has also been having an impressive Russia 2018 tournament which will surely attract more suitors. He has insisted that the club must show its seriousness with quality signings this summer if he must stay. Kante is another key player whom PSG are reportedly ready to fight tooth and nail for, to ensure that he returns to the Ligue 1.
These are a few of the issues that could affect Chelsea negatively next season. However, these challenges can be resolved quickly if the club acts quickly with regards to the managerial situation, as well as the signing of players. Hopefully, it is done fast. Chelsea have never been this slow.
