According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Chelsea are in a race with Arsenal to sign Jasper Cillessen from Barcelona. The 29-year-old old Netherlands number 1 goalkeeper has a £52 million release clause in his contract and it is believed that the Spanish giants won’t give ears to any offer below that amount.
Cillessen joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2016, but has found it difficult to nail a starting spot ahead of preferred German goalkeeper Ter Stegen. The player recently expressed his displeasure at the lack of playing time at Barcelona.
“I love this club, but I am a professional and I want to play more than ten games in a season,” Cillessen said in an interview with Ziggo Sport.
“The management already knows that I want to play more, but I also read that they do not want me to leave and that they are happy with my work.
“I am not the type of player who goes to war with the clubs, I have been here for two years, and, for the moment, I will continue.”
Cillessen has made just 21 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona since his arrival at the club. Regardless, he is Netherlands number one shotstopper.
