I feel blessed to have won the Europa with Chelsea- Giroud.

  • We were a better and more efficient team says Giroud.
  • I will always give my best given enough playing time.

Olivier Giroud spent 5years at Arsenal before joining Chelsea in January of 2018. Since joining the Blues he’s struggled for both goals and game time at the club.

Chelsea bought the Frenchman to strengthen their attacking options as striker Alvaro Morata struggled with form, Giroud also suffered the same fate as Morata. January of 2019 saw Morata leave and Higuain join the Blues on loan.

This year the 32-year-old made a total of 27 top-flight appearances for the Blues scoring only 2 goals in  832 minutes he played.

Heading into the final of the Europa League the French striker was a joint-top goalscorer in the competition which gave him an upper hand to start the game over Higuain who also has not lived up to his credibility since arriving at the bridge.

The French international scored the game’s opener in the 49th minute for Chelsea, the goal was his 11th in the competition before he won a penalty which Hazard converted also setting up the Belgian for his second goal.

the 32-year-old told BT Sport:

“It was an interesting first half but there were no goals,” .

“It was a good final and we were better, more efficient in the second half.

“I am very proud, this team deserved to win something. It was special for me, I am happy for this club. It’s my second trophy in two years.”

Despite his happiness at his current club’s triumph, Giroud admitted to being torn by the identity of the team they defeated.

The World Cup winner also explained why he didn’t celebrate after his goal.

“These two clubs changed my life, they gave me the opportunity to play in the Premier League. I didn’t want to celebrate at Arsenal, but I am so proud to win this trophy with Chelsea.”

“When you give me the chance to get game time I always try my best. It was our second target to win the Europa League after finishing in the top four, so I feel blessed.”
