- Pulisic displayed a great performance that’s why he was named captain.
The Gold Cup quarter-final game between the United State Men’s National Team and Curacao has provided Chelsea’s new signing Christian Pulisic with praises from US head coach.
The USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter named the 20-year-old as the captain for the game in Philadelphia in his ploy to spread responsibility throughout the squad, his decision makes Pulisic the ninth player to captain the Americans this year
The Winger repaid his manager’s trust by being influential throughout the game and also providing the assist to their sole goal to set up another semi-final showdown with Jamaica, the second of its kind in three years.
During the post-match interview Berhalter said:
‘He’s a guy that can lead through performance,’ ‘I talked to him about being captain in this game, and it was something that he readily accepted.
‘You see his work. He’s a guy that despite getting fatigued in the game he didn’t stop working, and then he has the quality to give a great pass to Weston, an in-swinging cross. He was in on a number of other chances, shots from the top of the 18, had that other chance at the beginning of the game that was really close to going in, And his defensive work was excellent.
‘Really happy with his performance, and that’s why he was captain, to be able to put in performances like that.’
