Maurizio Sarri fielding Jorginho as his deepest lying midfielder and playing Kante in a more central midfield role is a tactical master stroke according to Pat Nevin.
Kante has been played in the central midfield since Jorginho‘s arrival at Stamford Bridge, and Sarri has been criticized for his decision for most part of the season. He has even been subjected to sack rumors for the past few weeks.
The 60-year-old Italian coach won is first ever trophy at Chelsea on Wednesday night in a total dominating performance from his side after beating Arsenal to the trophy in a 4-1 thrashing.

Sarri guided the Blues to a third position finish in the premier league, took them to the Carabao cup final and recently winning the Europa league title. He was still widely criticized by fans especially for moving Kante from his favorite role, playing him in a more advance role and playing Jorginho there instead.
Pat Nevin disagreed with this criticism and agreed with Sarri’s decision on alternating Kante’s role in the midfield.
“I disagreed with everyone, I thought the stuff that was being said about Sarri was nonsense,”
he spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast.
“I thought the Jorginho thing, I thought it was a masterstroke from the start. Kante’s been brilliant since he moved into that further-forward area.
“I think some of the stuff that was said about Sarri after the cup final [when Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to be substituted], I’m not gonna use the word I was gonna use there, but rubbish as well.
“It was a misunderstanding and a massive thing was made of it.”
“Tuesday’s one was a joke, an absolute joke. I was here at the training session, I was watching it.
“He didn’t get in a huff because two players [Gonzalo Higuain and David Luiz] fell out, he was actually in a huff because he couldn’t get a closed training session.
“But two pieces of action were sliced together. It’s fake news, it’s rubbish.
“However, he’s actually built something that’s really nice-looking. I’ve enjoyed watching it being built.
“I’ve seen some Chelsea fans saying some things about Jorginho. We were talking last night and yesterday about the importance of Jorginho in this game today.
“Him against [Mesut] Ozil, whoever won that battle was gonna make a big difference in the game today. Jorginho was immense.
“When people say these things about players like him and the manager, I’m kind of offended by them.
“But if I say that, people will just say I’m biased towards Chelsea. It’s rubbish.”
